The story of Valentine’s Day finds its roots in Ancient Rome. Several figures named Valentinus appear in historical texts, but the most well-known is Saint Valentine of Terni, a 3rd-century priest and martyr.
🔸 According to legend, Emperor Claudius II banned marriage, believing that single men made better soldiers. Defying this order, Valentine is said to have secretly married couplesin the name of love and freedom of the heart.
🔸 Imprisoned, he reportedly restored sight to his jailer’s daughter and left her a letter signed: “From your Valentine” — a phrase that became legendary.
He was executed on February 14th, a date that became the symbol of a courageous, faithful, and devoted love.
